Everyone’s skin is unique, and not every product is going to be loved by everyone. It’s that simple, but it definitely doesn’t feel that simple as a consumer. It can be frustrating purchasing products that are better suited for someone else’s skin, and you didn’t know that you were purchasing something that didn’t fit your needs. Make better use of your money by knowing that you’re purchasing something your skin will actually love!

Cocoa butter is known for excessively dry skin, stretch marks, and scars... but it is so much more than that too! This natural ingredient is an anti-aging genius because it is FULL of anti-oxidants, healthy fatty acids, and a special anti-oxidant called Polyphenol which has been known to reverse/diminish signs of aging and remove skin conditions and rashes. It is also known to fight inflammation, increase skin immunity and can even be used for shaving!
Here are some other reasons why this butter is so amazing: This post was written before we released our 100% natural Tinted Primer & Foundation Powders. What is your makeup doing for you? No, I mean... what is it REALLY doing for you?
Looking in the mirror, can you see clogged pores, blackheads, and other problem areas? Do those problem areas coincide with your makeup areas? If you like to wear blush and you have skin issues on your cheeks, something is wrong! I went to get a facial about 6 months back and she said to me... Jessica I'm not sure what's going on but... First of all, let’s just be clear about something – pampering yourself isn’t just for women, it’s for EVERYONE, including children. There is a reason why pampering yourself is considered a “treat” and why people always say they wish they had more time to spend on themselves. There is also a reason why the most famous diapers are called “Pampers”. Babies need the best care, and the name of that diaper gives that impression… at least to me.
I’m here to tell you, “You cannot let yourself slip through the cracks and be put on the back-burner”! It is so important to “pamper yourself”, and here’s why:
No seriously, is there plastic on your face? No? Are you sure? Would you be surprised if I told you there was? I have done extensive research on the ingredients used in over the counter beauty products because of all of the reactions I have had to them. I was so sick of forking out money to try and figure out why my face was irritated, dry, red, itchy, bumpy, etc. and it finally came down to it... although I was often spending over $50 for a "special" face creme, it was full of things causing me to react. The fact that products even have a section called "INactive ingredients" blows my mind. Why are there ingredients in my products that aren't doing anything? Here is the ingredients label for the MOST POPULAR FACE CREME currently out there. 1st ingredient - Water... ok... well I can get that from my sink so, what else is there?
2nd ingredient - Glycerin. Good! 3rd ingredient - Cetyl alcohol. This is what makes your ingredients blend or is known as the thickening agent. People who suffer from eczema can be sensitive to this ingredient due to many possible impurities however if pure can be helpful. This is commonly derived from coconut oil or palm oil, but was originally derived from sperm whale fat. Depending on who you ask, this ingredient may or may not be OK. 4th ingredient - Petrolatum. Rated "Moderate Hazard" by the EWG due to the risk of contamination from "polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which are cancer-causing chemicals found in crude oil & its by-products. To give them some credit, usually (in medications) this ingredient goes through extreme lab testing before use however there is always a chance... It also comes from Crude Oil, which is a non-renewable substance. 5th ingredient - Cyclopentasiloxane (what?!) - classified as expected to be toxic or harmful. Concerns: one or more animals (sad) show negative effects at moderate doses, like: Tumor formation, endocrine disruption, & neurological disruption. Also linked to environmental toxins. 6th ingredient - Stearyl alcohol - similar to effects of Cetyl alcohol. 7th ingredient - Isopropyl Palmitate - This is typically used for fragrance but luckily doesn't have any high risk associated with its use. 8th ingredient - DIMETHICONE...dun dun dunnnn.... SILICONE! Don't be fooled people... -CONE at the end means derived from silicone. Moderate concern to organ toxicity (non-reproductive organs). Classified as expected to be toxic or harmful, and is also suspected to be an environmental toxin. 9th ingredient - Carbomer - not terrible on the "concern" scale, but used for more viscosity control & gel formation. 10th ingredient - PEG-100 Stearate - Suspected to be an environmental toxin and contaminator. Also some lower concerns fro organ system toxicity. 11th ingredient - Stearic Acid - a naturally occurring fatty acid that is used for fragrance, stabilizing, masking, refatting. How many of these do you need??? Also suspected to be an environmental toxin. 12th ingredient - Sodium Hydroxide - organ system toxicity, irritation to the skin, eyes & lungs, highly caustic & reactive. This ingredient is restricted in cosmetics for use. 13th ingredient - DMDM Hydantoin - HIGH CONCERN ingredient! High concern for chemical release, irritation to the skin, eyes & lungs. This is your lovely preservative. "People exposed to such agents may DEVELOP AN ALLERGY OR AN ALLERGY TO THE INGREDIENT ITSELF AND ITS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS. 14th ingredient - Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate- More than a moderate health hazard on the rating scale with low concerns to organ system toxicity. This ingredient is restricted in cosmetics and even prohibited for use in cosmetics in some countries. I'm skipping a few because this is exhausting... Titanium Dioxide - Possible human carcinogen (for products that are inhaled - not lotion), concern for cancer linkage, classified to be toxic or harmful and funny enough no absorption into intact skin. Why even put this in products?? Why do you want things in products that shouldn't or can't even be absorbed into the skin?! Ohhhh that's right... it's a COLORANT to make your face cream a nice pale pink color. At least we all know what's important. I don't want to put this company out there or call anyone out. It's not just them - it's mainly all products. You can look it up for yourself as well. Why am I so passionate about this? Well, my father passed away when I was only in middle school due to high amounts of chemical exposure that caused his lung cancer. This was a non-smoker, marathon runner, charity donator, amazing father figure that was overtaken by chemical exposure. On top of that, I used to have so many reactions to products it was ridiculous. I was so sick of it, and that's why I started Wildflower Beauty by Jessica; to give options to people who don't want to keep putting garbage product ingredients on their skin (in turn soaking into the body). I understand that it may be a lifestyle change because you're no longer able to purchase $3 bottles of body wash by switching to all natural, but even if you think you're using a natural product from the store PLEASE CHECK INGREDIENTS! If you see the word FRAGRANCE it is a chemical, and the product is not 100% natural. Many soaps from farmers markets (even whole foods!) contain fragrance oils instead of essential oils. Yes, I know. You think they are natural because they are handmade.. but that doesn't mean anything. Please. Read. Labels. What are you putting on your skin? |
